Hey everyone this is Ash Swan just tack on FlyingSwan and in this article to show you how to set up your very own self-hosted email server for free. We’re gonna be using something called cyber panel and you know for the longest time I resisted writing this article because I personally know how hard it is to set up an email server in general now not only do you have to get the emails sending and receiving properly but in order to have your emails not be sent to the spam folder at the destination.
You need to make sure that all of your DNS records are in place like the D. K. I am records the Amex records the P. T. R. records all the stuff blah blah blah but the reason we’re doing this to Torah today with the cyber panel is that it takes the pain out of generating those records by hand in manually there is literally done with a click of a button so it really simplifies the process of setting up the email server.
Now I don’t wanna make it sound like it’s super easy because there are still a lot of steps in this tutorial ARTICLE will probably be longer than most of my BLOGS on this forum, but my guarantee is that if you stick around to the end of the article read the full thing all the way through by the end you will have a working email server where your emails don’t get sent to the spam folder because we properly configured everything the way it should be.
Now the one aspect of this the email server itself is free right it’s an open-source software cyber panel is you can actually look at the source code on getting a hub or something like that but you will have to pay for that to host it if you don’t already have a server set up at your location maybe you’ll have to sign up for some type of VPS which is what we’re actually gonna be using in this video I’m gonna use a Linux on the server.
I’ll walk you through that process as well but that does not have to be the case for you you can use an Ubuntu server or any other type of server that you want in general so. With all the other way let’s go ahead and get on into the Tory here we will start in limited which is the server that I’m gonna be running my email server on again this can be you know a local server on your computer for all that matters.
So let’s go ahead and create a limit here I’m gonna create my first one and what this is if this is confusing for you at this point this is just me spinning up a new bug to server a fresh copy of Ubuntu 20 that forced so many to choose that here and there we go so we’ve gone to 28 for long term support gonna put in Fremont California which is the location closest to me. I’m gonna do a 2-gigabyte ram plan with 50 gigabytes of storage and then I’ll type in my group password.
An online message queues and create that server so this is gonna take a few seconds to boot up but we do have an I. P. address here and what we’re gonna do with this I. P. address right away goes over to our domain name registrar the place that we got our domain name from an associate that I. We’re going to be hosting our DNS server on the mail server to simplify the process of all those DNS records that I talked about so that’s we’re gonna start setting up right now so I bought my domain name site one.X. Y. Z. that’s the domain in that we’re gonna use in the senatorial so anytime I talk about site wanted X. Y. Z. just replace it with the domain name that you want to set up a mail server. In any way, I bought this from NameCheap here. And what I’m gonna do is go into the manage section and you know like you said this will be slightly different for you wherever you bought your domain name from.
But the concept still is the same what we what we’re doing about setting up the name servers are gonna be the same thing that you have to do wherever you bought your domain name from so I’m gonna come on out over here into the advanced DNS section. And I come down to the personal DNS server which is kind of like the same thing as a private DNS server and I’m gonna add a name server here so the name server and it’s going to be an S. 1.sight 1 that X. Y. Z. and that’s going to be associate it with the I. P. address of our server and then I’m gonna add another 1 called anis to that site 1 at X. Y. Z. and then the same thing associate it with the I. P. address ending in 248 so doesn’t look like it’s doing anything but if you click on search you’ll see that we have those 2 records set up here.
Now the other thing I want to do inside of Namecheap specifically is to come back to the main section here and instead of when this loads instead of having basic DNS name servers were gonna have custom DNS name servers and here we will type in an S. one. slate one and.X. YC for first one N. and S. 2.site one.X. YC and we will save those changes. So that we did there is we just hold name cheap that our name servers are going to be located at the I. P. address that we told it so we’re gonna have to set up the name servers on our cyber panel.
Okay so by now I think we can go ahead and check the status of this looks like it’s up and running so let’s go ahead and log into that D. S. S. H. 3 can do S. S. H.. A route at the I. P. address hit enter yes we can trust the connection so we can continue and now we are logged into that remote server we’re gonna do is to kick off the cyber panel install so with the official documentation this is how you do that and all have. All of these,nds, and this video went down in the scripture below so you don’t have to type them from the screen you can just copy and paste them so S. H.
We’re going to pull down the latest installer script and go ahead and kick off the installer now here are just checking to make sure everything’s up to date it is and we’re good to go so let’s go ahead and do this installation so we wanna do we want to install separate panel so let’s pick option one here type one and hit enter and we want to install so I repeat with open light speed this is the free version of the light speed server option 2 is something that you have to pay for so we want to pick option one again here hit enter seconds do you want to install cyber panel like in full which includes power denies postfix in this F. T. P. server yes we definitely wanna do this, especially because we want postfix which is going to be the mail server that we’re using so. Capital Y. hit enter and this next option here is asking us to do we will have a remote server it meaning to have a server that is. I’m a database server that is external to our server in the answer to that, in this case, doesn’t matter but for us, it is now in the capital and hit enter, and do you want the latest version of the cyber panel?
If you do hit enter and hit enter or you can specify a specific version and then we’re gonna set a password here with S. hit enter and type in my password. And again. And do what ma’am cashed it doesn’t matter in this case I’m gonna say no just to speed up the insulation same thing for writers no but if you want those things you can hit yes and I will accept the watchdog here. So this is going to go ahead and install server panel takes a good amount of time 5–10–15 minutes. Catch back up with you when it finishes hi guys I’m back in the cyber panel installation is finished it prompted me if I wanted to reboot the server so a point here type to buy in that went ahead and reboot the server and now it should be up in online so let’s go ahead and check to see if that’s the case if we M. if you just copy your I. P. address and open up a new window type in that I. P. address and hit enter this is good I mean for usually is not a good thing but this is good this means that there’s something being served on our cyber panel website web server in order to access the dashboard for sever pain we can tackle any Colin 80–90 here and that’s gonna open up well you’re gonna get your connection is not private so we can click on advance and proceed to the log in screen but this is how you are able to log into the cyber panel.
